hello, my name is justin laughlin and im from south louisiana. I decided to build my first boat. It is a 1972 starcraft 16 foot super sport-v o/b.This is a very rare boat down hear.I havent seen any other boats quite like this around here. I bought this boat from a guy for $1,300 only thing that really needed attention is the floor. The wood under the carpet started to rot. I think i have read enough to know how to change the wood and all. Also needs a good cleaning of course and a little touch up on the paint. The boat had been completely restored in 2012. but when the guy who restored it sold it. The guy left it outside in the weather. Which is the man i bought it from. I wish there is some way i could attach pictures to this. But im new to the site so it doesnt allow me to. My only real concern is the price of the boat. Did i make a good deal and what do you think this boat should bring if i were to sell it? I'd really appreciate any advise that anyone can give me. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to reply!
I bought my 1972 Starcraft Super Sport 16 back in March. It was completely gutted so I had a blank canvas to work with. I built everything myself, painted it all in my front yard. Put in 3/4" marine ply floors and made it a center console drive. I pulled all the original sheet aluminum off the gunwales, and replaced it with diamond plate. I put on a 1996 oil injected 40hp Mariner Magnum for my main, and I have a 1987 U.S. Marine 9.9 Sea King kicker. I know a lot of people wouldn't, but the motor has been beyond well taken care of. I used it for 4 straight days out at Bouy 10 without any issues, and after every use, I've ran the salt remover through both engines. I got it done in time for the springers on the Willamette, and I've had it in the Columbia for the fall Chinook, and a trip to the Siletz. Bilge pump, wired in running lights, and new Garmin Striker Vivid 7SV fish finder. I also rebuilt and painted the trailer, and put new lights on it. This is a great boat, you can take it out and put it in the water all day with no problems whatsoever. I hate to have to let it go. I've put a lot of time and effort into making it exactly how I wanted it to be, and had a lot of fun doing it. First boat I've ever done.
