Pool was the perfect size to cover the motor while its raining here... the dogs love water but refuse to use the pool....

Sounds like you need to copyright it as a "Restoration Cover" and sell it for about $100. :D

stripped out the rest of the old flotation and the shop vac took care of the nasty mess left behind..,. power washed the innards of the boat but will need some heavy duty cleaner and some scrubbing to get it ready to seal it up..

:welcome: to the Starmada!

Nice that you've posted up pics for us to see, I love that older style of Islander, it has the PT boat look to it. You sure are going at it on the tear down, looking good so far. Did you figure out your questions on your own yet?

I'm guessing that you haven't found the Starcraft section where's it's all tin all the time. I love to see these old SC boats brought back from the brink. Us guys in the SC mob sometimes have a tough time finding these rebuilds here in the general resto forum.

Next up strip the console bulkheads, and order some GLuvit.. get some floatation Do those noodles really work in the harsh bilge environment,.. cheaper than batts or sheets...

The noodles are not the best option for flotation, rigid foam board is what's best, pink or blue.

Be sure you do a leak test before the gluvit, there may be some areas that need repair. Rib end cracks and or damaged solid rivets that need replaced? Your Islander is prior to the year hull stiffener braces were added and an IO which seem to have rib end cracks more often that not.

Looking good!!!

Leak test will help you find your problem areas and fix before you cover it all up and make it more difficult to repair.

It does hold water while i was pressure washing it i put the plug in and let the hull fill up to a little past the bottom of the oil pan with the trailer rig in downward dog.. let it sit for several hours and just a couple of weeps. I havent had a good inspection of whats under the engine as far as ribs go.. but it looks ok from what i can see..have seen some prior posts of cracks on Manduke? (spelling) page,, did he ever finish his braketed boat? Im looking at the pink foamboard at Lowes..come 3/4 to 1.5 sizes.. big sheets 4x8 to 2x2 squares...

MagnumDeke hasnt been on in quite a while. Seems he got close enough to drop it in the water and run it, but finished? I dont think so, at least not that he posted here... But it has been a while, so maybe...

So I decided to turn the trailer that I got for 200 bucks into a bunk trailer. After considering the time it will take me to strip the roller brackets and sandblast and paint..all the time it.. makes sense to get some hot dipped galv brackets and save me a ton of time ! Read up on some of the trailer posts and I think a 10 foot double bunk system will be enough to handle the weight and a couple of mid and upper bow rollers will do it, and I can get those from the trailers I have now..

Think Im gonna need more tongue...Overall trailer length at the extension (a little goes a long way) is only 19+- not so good on a 21 footer..So I can get 1/4 inch square tube 3x4 at the local steel guy 18ft at 10 bucks a foot.. that will give me plenty and I can recess it back all the way and secure with plenty of meat and no flexing on a fulcrum...

Getting some yard word done waiting for the temps to get up around 70.. then onto gluvin.. getting all but the transom/engine area..going to save that for after the engine is out.. Have been under the assumption that the engine and its related electronic junk had to stay in the boat to get it running.. duh,, came across a few vids (Jasoutside ?) that shows the engine running outside of the boat.. so Im not sure how this is done but more to learn ! Will gluv the rest of it once the new transom is in place . Caught 3 small brookies yesterday Yak trolling...was nice to get onto the water,..100 acre pond no one on it..5hrs of peace and nature...and lots of bugs....

I agree about the bunk trailer and bunks give more support to the heavy sterndrive boats too.

Yeah this time of year deet is a good friend.

The U joints are ok,, not loose and slopppy,, I think they are salvageable,, the gasket that goes at the base of this has some stuff that looked like silicone around it,, Im guessing that this is not normal.. the gasket itself is very loose around the housing... probably a quick fix to seal it up...I dont know...
