Re: 1972 starcraft Jupiter restoration ( I know another)

Just caught your Jupiter thread today Bkarb. I have to say that cracked chine doesn't look good at all. Not sure I've ever seen a thread yet where that sort of cracking has occurred. I have a few questions about that chine if you don't mind. Were the ends of the cracks drilled out to stop further cracking? How long is the crack and is the starboard side fitted with those same braces?

The starboard side is solid and does have the same braces
However after I sanded down the port side I did not notice where it would have been drilled because it had been filled with some kind of epoxy or something ???
The crack is roughly 18" to 20 " long in that pic and back about two feet is another shorter crack maybe 6"
Or less
Both sides appear to have been braced and the port side seems to have been repaired
Does that help. Any waterman thanks for the help everyone

Those chine thingies look a lot like what the newer SCs have. Here are some pics in DozerIIs' SS201 thread - http://forums.iboats.com/starcraft-boats/1986-ss-201-a-543074-6.html

Thanks ga I agree it looks very similar Im not 100% sure If mine would go the length all the way around or not but I'm guessing they would ill have to look into that this weekend my guess is that it would only make sense that it would being as someone had to of had the floor up to put those in so why not finish the job but the only way to know is to look for myself

You can tell from the outside by the extra rivets lined up with the top ones through the plate by the seat.

(Hand smacks forehead ) good call ga how I didn't see that is beyond me
Well I'm guessing that is good news ill look into it more tomorrow and see if I can tell how many of those plates there are my guess is tho there shouldn't have to be many but is guess in this instance overkill would be a good thing

Good evevening everyone
So after talking to a guy at a shop we take almost all of our special welding needs to I decided I think I'm going to take my boat to him and have him weld and repair the chine
Our discussion included him telling me he has welded several other boats before and not to mention he welds all our aluminum fuel tanks hrdrolic resevores and other parts
I told him I was concerned that the heat would actually weaken the hull and he informed me that he would reverse polarity weld it somehow to keep the heat down and the man guarenteed me he could make it like new and we could also at the time go threw and add more supports if needed

Give me some feed back everyone I'm not 100% sold on this just thinking it may be the best solution
