1973 115hp - Timing base moves real slow?

I cannot get my motor to increase in speed from the controller. I took apart the throttle assembly and found lots of old grease. I cleaned all the parts and the spring actually has a function now.

The sad part is the real problem was the timer base. I can manually move it forward to increase rpms of the motor by hand, but it feels stiff or slow like maybe this too is full of old grease or something.
Should it be like this or should it slide with ease?

My book says that the brass bushing are very close to the base and could cause a problem if dirt and stuff gets in between.

Could I spray something in or around that area to maybe loosen up the rotation of the base? If i need to remove the flywheel, what size socket do i need? Also is there a trick to do this with standardized tools, I don't have a flywheel removal tool and or holding fixture? Will my timing get messed up?

Thanks!

go to napa and get this thing called a hydrophonic puller(somebody will correct me with the right name). Use a torque wrench to tighten it up when your done..can't remember the specifics on this, but I know somebody will come along and tell you. If this has a keyway you can't mess it up putting the wheel back on.

poppa use a steering wheel puller to pull flywheel remove stator and timer base it will have delrin at timer base check it for brittle or breakage if good clen it up and use a little graphite grease atracts put it back together
torque fly wheel to specs after cleaning shaft with denatured alcohol
while yor at it chage timer link bushing if brittle under flywheel
its easier with it off and cost 5 bucks

It does have a key.
Does the timer base normally move with ease?
If damaged, where would I find this timer link bushing?
Local auto parts or is it a specific part for my 1973 115hp? Online?
Why use graphite grease?
Why use denatured alcohol?

Harmonic balancer puller is used to pull the flywheel.

The flywheel nut is 1-5/16. Retorque to 100 to 105 ft. lbs.

You can hold the flywheel with a belt with both ends threaded through the lifting eye.

You can also put a bolt in one of the holes at the outer edge of the flywheel and use the socket as a fulcrom.

Whatever you do, dont use the base of the timing pointer to hold the flywheel; it will break off and you won't be able to set your timing.

You will need #8 bolts to plull the flywheel.
