It is if you get a CMC TT otherwise finding a 38 year old TT that still works is gonna be pretty hard, the CMCs are pretty salty but really your only option.

I have had one on my boat for 6-7 years with no problems at all, mine si an '81 50 Evinrude.

PT&T unit are out there for these units. They typically sell for $350 to $450 on e bay. I was able to find one from a member on this site and it was $100. If you go this route try and find one with a Prestolite pump. Shown on attachment.

I have also heard there are two different size mounting plates one for the large motors one for the small but I don't know the size / hp where the change occurs.

The OEM trim n tilt used part # 172687 for the 1973-74 50s, then part # 172858 for 1975 50s and 1976 through at least 1979 for the 55 twins.

IMHO, I'd go with a CMC unit before that old double ram unit. Buying a used one those you never know what you getting.

I agree the CMC is a better unit, but it costs twice what I paid for my motor. That's why I picked up the old style unit. That and neither the motor or the PT&T have been mounted on a boat yet.
