I,m new to boats so would appreciate a pointer in the right direction here. My old Johnson has no spark. Traced the wiring back from the ignition switch to the multi plug, all ok. The wire then goes into the head and as far as I can tell theres nothing going to the ignition. Has anyone got a wiring diagram they could email me or tell me what wires do what on the igniton block on the side of the engine, and what does what on the other multi block next to it.

Hellllllllllp

Check the motor over for a model and serial number
also look over the powerhead for numbers as well.
I can tell you it was probably built by Eska
And uses a Tecumseh powerhead.It should be a 2
cycle.Powerhead is air cooled and the exhaust leg
is water cooled. I believe it may have a built in tank as well as a remote. We can tell more with model number(s).

Re: 1973 50hp Johnson Wiring Quiz

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum. Basically three things could cause you to have no spark, a bad timer base under the flywheel, a bad power coil which is part of the stator also under the flywheel or a bad power pack. That's the gray box mounted to the side of the motor with all the wires coming into it. This is where I would check first. What you need to do is have a mech check for voltage going into the power pack from the power coil. Then check for output voltage from the timer base. If you got these, then the pack is bad. If you had a OEM manual for the engine, it would explain step by step how to do this and would have very good wiring diagrams in the back. If you have gone over the wiring and it all appears to be good with no shorts or anything, the above would be where I would go next. Again, a manual would be of great help.

Are all these replys supposed to be for some other post? Because he never once said what year or model his Johnson was.
