I just got a 60hp 1973 Evinrude. It has electric shift and I was wondering what type of oil to use in the lower unit?
Thanks.

The 1973 model is not electric shift. What is the model number of that engine?

There was no 60hp in 1973. So....let's assume it really is electric shift. Then it would have to be a 1970 or 1971. Also known as Hydro-Electric and Selectric.
Whatever you call them, they require "Premium Blend Gearcase Lubricant" only from Evinrude dealers (replaces OMC Type C). OR, it is still called Type C from other suppliers, including iboats. http://www.iboats.com/Type-C-Gear-Oil/dm/*******.572475799--session_id.110581627--view_id.45019

If it's a 73 then it's a 65 horse and not electric. Even in 72 they didn't make a 60 horse

1971 60hp Evinrude with Hydro Electric Shift setup.

This model requires what is called Premium Blend, also known as Type C. The container will state that it is for the electric shift models.

DO NOT use the 80/90w HiVis gearcase lube that is used on the standard mechanical shift models.
