There are those that really like these old air cooled motors,Clinton,Eska. If its Gramps motor you want to resurrect go to it.But if you want a practical motor with easy to get parts; sell it for parts and apply it to a 1950-1976 5.5 or 6 hp Evinrude or Johnson. it will be smoother quieter, and very likely faster.
You probably know Clinton is an air cooled power head with a water cooled leg. It will need a pump probably $30 or more. The 5.5/6 hp E/J pumps are here at iboats
for something like $8.
Don't know if you can check compression without the reeds but you should try it and check the gear case for water intrusion.
Check Ebay for Clinton parts or parts motors.Perhaps someone at www.aomci.org can help you.
