Ok had to repair the water pump so took the lower out and did that now when I was trying to put it back in a kickednit out of neutral and when I put it back together I can't get it to go back to neutral I need help thanks, the prop turns to the right and makes a clicking sounds

Sounds like you are in forward gear. Drop the gearcase and set the throttle handle to neutral. Now turn the gearcase lower shift rod CCW until it clicks into neutral.. I use an adjustable wrench to turn it. It will take some pressure to turn.

Now install the gearcase, after greasing both splines.

NOW IN MY CASE I REMOVE LU WITH MOTOR TILTED UP, 950SS MOTOR, WONT GO UP WITH SHIFTER IN NEAUTRAL, SO I REMOVE LU WITH SHIFTER IN GEAR, AND IF WHILE THE LU IS OUT YOU TURN PROP CLOCK WISE IT WILL PUT LU IN GEAR AND NOW WHEN ASSYBLED YOU SHIFTER WILL FUNCTION NORMAL AGAIN, I MADE THIS MISTAKE AS WELL AND RESULTS WHERE SAME AS YOU HAVE, I DID AS DESCRIBED ABOVE REASSY AND IT WORKED CORRECTLY

Ok got it in neutral but I took the black cover off like a retard and now I don't know what way it's suppose to face when in neutral
