I recently had elect. problems with a 1973 Evinrude 115, the problem was no or intermmitent spark on one bank of cylinders. I replaced the power pack and timer base with no luck, After further troubleshooting I noticed the flywheel had some cracking so I replaced that and the spark came back. Now when I try to start it the motor backfires through the exhaust. I started to troubleshoot some more yesterday and found the flywheel had a small line on the inside from slight rubbing on the stator, which led me to the flywheel key. The key looks like it was broke in half(the long way), I was wondering if this would cause hard starting and backfiring, it acts like the timing is off.Any info is appreciated.
