1973 Evinrude 25

I am looking at buying a 1973 25HP evinrude electric start to put on my 14' 44" flat bottom. Is there anything I should be aware when looking at this motor? Motor starts right up by recoil or electric. Seems to run great. What kind of commpresion should this motor have? What should be a fair price? Thanks, BC

The compression value is pretty much irrevelant. What you want to see is both cylinder readings to be very close to each other.

If you do not know when the water pump was replaced, it's due.

Also, crack open the bottom (drain) plug screw on the lower unit. You should not see water or milky fluid.

Otherwise, that is a very good and durable engine.
