1973 Evinrude 65HP shift rod

Well I am trying to replace the water pump and I can not find how to disconnect the shift rod. any help? Thanks

I was looking around on a parts list and it might be under the engine on the shift lever. any thought?

I have a 1974 115HP johnson. Not sure if they are similar but if you can verify they are I will send you a pic and instructions from my service manual if you want. Mine has a lever that pivots in the middle....one end connected to top of shift rod... other end connects to rod that connects with shift lever that is attached to shift cable.

Remove the shift pin part #105 in the parts diagram at Shop.evinrude.com

That looks to be the only way to disconnect. Thanks
