1973 Evinrude 85 HP

I am looking at a 1973 Evinrude 85 HP outboard on E-Bay. The bid is now at 320.00. I know that it all depends on how good this engine is but does anyone have any idea how this series of engines was? I had a 1974 Johnson 50 HP on it but it took a ####. Thanks

the 85 is a V4 and wieghs about 100 lbs more than the 50.

Good motors. Stators all melted within the first couple of years, so that should have already been replaced by now. Only other problem was terrible water pump impellers. If there is any sign of prior overheating such as discolored paint or melted insulation where wires touch the block, run. Away.
