Hi, I have a 1973 Evinrude Sportwin and I have a prop question. The prop has a little bit of play in it. Is this ok or does it need to be super tight?

By play, do you mean in and out on the propshaft? or do you mean prop turns a quarter of a turn when in gear? There should be little in-out movement on the propshaft. The prop will turn when in gear between the ears on the clutch dog - usually about 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

The 9.5's are pin drive props so there will be some movement. The newer 9.9's are spline drive with a nut that you tighten to remove any excess play.

Ok great thanks for the help. It only has a small amount of play and that is because to get the cotter pin in the shaft I can't tighten the prop nut all the way or the holes don't line up for the cotter pin to go through. So its not bad and I'm not too concerned about the small amount of play.
