I wouldn't worry about it. You can glass all that back together and sand an fair it so that you'll never know it happened. Carry on!!!!

So are you saying to not worry about the cap coming back all the way. Or not to worry about cutting out the splashwell? Can I just fill and glass over the back of the cap to the hull and not worry about rubrail back there (because I destroyed the back sections of rub rail while removing them).

With all the help you are giving me I am going to permantently affix your name somewhere on this boat. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate you and this forum and all of it's members. I did not know what I was going to do when I drug this heap of fiberglass and rotton wood home. Thank you all. This has been such a fun process and I am learning so much. :)

Sorry I had to get some work done. No what I'm saying is I'd fit the cap back on as best as you can and then re-build the lip for the rubrail to make it fit. From what I see in the pic it looks like this could be done fairly easily.

Thank you for your advise as always. I spent some time last night with the grinder, cleaning up the edges of the hull and cap where they meet. I agree with you that I could easily rebuild the rear section of cap. Now that that is out of the way I can focus on the deck. More questions to follow I am sure.. :D

Well I wish I was posting pictures of the new deck but the weather just won't cooperate here. It's been raining for two days and the gauge in my shop is reading 74% humidity... From what I have read elsewhere on the forum this is just too high for laying glass. I plugged in a couple dehumidifiers in the garage to try to combat this wet spring weather. Hopefully mother nature will let me get to work tomorrow!

I did get a chance to cut the new bowrider storage hatches from scrap leftover from the deck. I will probably just use a polyurethane wood floor finish for these (I just refinished my floors and have a ton of the varathane poly left over). As they will look great and are easily replaceable if needed. I was thinking about staining them with red mahogany wood stain as well. They should turn out very nice.

Old Topic fellas, and JK hasn't been on since March.

Best to let it slip back into the archives until JK revives it. After 90days, it's better to treat inactive Topics as library books: For research only, and not to be written in.

I just picked up a '73 here in Virginia Beach. I know its an old thread, but reading through the fiber work details has me motivated to fix her up.
I guess we will see your resto thread any second now.
