Just picked up a 1973 glastron v-156 sportster and it has a 1974 mercury 850 outboard motor. Was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram for the boat or help with getting my engine started?

Welcome to iboats
Maybe https://www.fiberglassics.com/ has some Diagrams in the Glastron Section

My Cousin had a 72 v-156 with a 72 800. Ran pretty good

As for the Engine
Gas, Fuel, Compression are needed to make it run
Test Compression, with a Gauge, Post the Numbers
Check that the Ignition System is making a Spark the can jump a 7/16" gap at all Cylinders
Verify that fuel is getting to the Carbs, and that the Carbs are not gummed up/plugged
The Water Pump Impeller, perhaps the entire Water, will need replacement
Check for Water the Gearcase, and if none, change the Gear Oil.

You’ll struggle for such a thing as a wiring diagram for most boats like that. But it’s very very basic usually and easily traced out and determined.
As for the engine, what I'd do personally, is the following to start with
If she’s not been used for ages or of unknown health, take the plugs out her, feed a tablespoon of 2 stroke oil into each plug hole…let her sit for a while..and then see if you can turn the engine over by hand, using the flywheel. Go easy though, in case she’s reluctant with a sticking ring or two. Any real resistance at all…then morse oil and let her sit over night. Try again by hand. Work it a little at a time if need be. Be patient.
If she does turn over…make sure the plugs are ok and throw them back in for now.
I’d then crack open the gear oil drain screw for a look at the oil condition. Or if it’s present at all perhaps ! Nothing nasty in there…box that back up again.
I’d then make sure she has a clean power supply to her starter from the battery.
Then I’d say a wee prayer before cracking open the carb drain screws on the bottom of their bowls. Check the condition of the fuel line and primer bulb, belfry fitting to the engine and to an absolutely guaranteed source of new and fresh fuel and 2 stroke mix (at 50-1). Pump the primer bulb until fresh fuel comes out the drain screws mentioned earlier…box them back up thereafter. Say another prayer…then turn her over for a few seconds. All being well…choke on at the key…throttle open…crank her over again for a sign of life ! If she goes…then spend the money on plugs, gear oil…treat her to a carb clean too.
If all that fails…do a compression test on her to rule out anything nasty.

@QBhoy, thank you so much for the info I bought the manual I found for it and that has also been a big help. My next problem is figuring out putting a new ignition key in and where the wires go. If you can send me a picture of an ignition key that would work that would be a big help. I attached a photo of the wires which are the ones that go with the diagram I also attached below, colors are brown, black, red, white, yellow, and salmon, and gray. I also have a different remote control that doesn't hook up like it shows in the diagram so I am trying to figure out an ignition key that would hook up to them and what all the wires hook up to. Thanks so much!

Hi. Good stuff. If you don’t mind me being blunt..if I were you…I’d definitely just buy a good used remote control box and loom, as close to the engines era as possible. Will have an ignition barrel and key integrated into the box.

Nothing wrong with that I just can't seem to find one, maybe I am not looking very hard enough I just wish I could use the one I have:(
