The extra effort is the least I can do given the amount of help I've gleaned from this forum. I am very busy working right now and I can't remember where I bought that impeller. I know I got it online though so I will go through my email receipts and locate the source hopefully for a refund. The new one I had on hand came with a complete rebuild kit including the housing and it is OMC made in America. The impeller that failed fit just as tight as this one except the core is plastic instead of metal and I did replace the key which matched the original.

The key is the same one that came out of it and the same one that was in the kit they match identically so hopefully it is correct as far as uploading pictures goes it is always too big and when I resize them I ruin the picture for everything else.

sorry. see you described the key (assume it was OEM, unless maybe a PO switched it out). been some talk of replacement keys -- need to use orig equipment. Thanks.

The key matched the one in the omc kit. My estimate of 1/32 may have been off. Could have been 1/16 or even 3/32+ as I did not measure it. It just appeared more shallow than the notch on the impeller to me. It did however match the keyway on the shaft pretty well. One thing to consider is that this 1973 motor is notorious for having parts unique to its year. The key that came in the kit may work for many years applications but might not be quite right.

Only the internal engine parts for the 73 V-4 were unique to the year.--As far as I am concerned it is just another case of.------" the bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotton "

How true. However it is getting to be you can't find anything that isn't made in China anymore regardless of the cost. Especially if you're in a hurry.
