Hello, Im hoping someone will reply to this as I am at the end of my rope with this motor. My problem is with the float. I recently have rebuilt the carb(this spring) and has run great until now. this past weekend it wouldnt run at all. So I pulled off the top of the carb to find the coating on the float was floating around in the fuel bowl. Luckily I had the one I replaced with me and tried to use it. It ran great again but the next morning when I went to start it it would not pull over. I pulled the plugs and the lower cylinder was full of gas and oil. What am I doing wrong here? And how would so much fuel fill inside the cylinder?

Re: 1973 Johnson 9.5 questions????

The floats are sealed with shellac, which dissolves in alcohol. New ones come with the rebuild kits, but they don't hold up very long with ethanol.

Several forum members have suggested sealers that they claim will extend the life of the floats, so you may want to search for those threads.

When you have the float problem solved, the excess fuel problem may solve itself, but check to be sure that the flooded cylinder is firing correctly.

Thanks ezeke. I might try that on the float, because I cant and wont be rebuilding this carb every other time I use it. I mean this float was brand new a month and half ago. Also if the flooded cylinder wasnt firing correctly, wouldnt it have run like crap prior to this?

These OMC's can run so smooth on one cylinder it is hard to tell they are only running on one. It is when you put them in the lake you find you've got a problem as they have a lack of power. Best of luck. Rick.
