Just picked up a '73 850 for my project, real cheap, has power tilt/trim, but it's the old style. I was trying to find parts for it (replacing both rams, pump, and even the pivot bracket) After almost an hour of trying to find good used parts at a decent price, I realized that the newer style (80's-90's) tilt/trim are a lot more common. Is it possible to swap out the whole transom mount/tilt/trim/ and pivot arm from a newer model onto my old 73. I realize there would be some wiring to do, but it seems alot easier to find parts. I know some of the lower units and mid-sections can be swapped out. What year and size engines would work here? Thanks...James

First of all, the first generation of integrated Power Trim was in 84. I did that exact thing to my 79, used the mid and lower from an 85. Powerhead bolted right up. I don't know how far back that bolt patern goes, but if it is the same as yours, then any of the inline 6 and inline 4 through 88 (I Think) will fit yours.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, I just snagged a whole transom/tilt unit off an 84 75hp, so we'll see what happens. I just hope I don't have to replace the midsection.
