1973 Model 25302A 25hp runs great until the cover goes on

This unit runs great with the cover off,dies when the cover goes on.Seems to happened after i put the water pump in.The pump works good

any chance you forgot parts sounds like the infamous 9.5hp problem of exhaust fumes working its way up to the power head and suffocating it ??


check of fumes under the cowl when it dies if so inspect lower housing and impeller work you did

would the o ring on the top of the shift rod and the O ring on tube that goes above the waterpump housing have a effect?Been doing alot of reading and it gets more confusing

your right sounds just like the infamous 9.5

Running in a barrel ??-----Try running / testing on a boat at the river.

experts here on that specific aspect may provide more info but your note seems to indicate a relation between the pump work and the consequence hence the need to review your work

but... yes barrel testing will do that to as racerone points out !! you can always try a big fan to see barrel fumes are killing it

No,It was cutting out because i was running it in a barrell,problem solved thanks to everyone.But now the pin that hold the recoil spring is bent...does it ever end???
