1974 115 switch box question

I had my motor running well. I took it to a shop to pull the motor so I could replace transom. Then had them remount the motor. It would not start. No spark to plugs. I did a little testing but had to lay everything aside for several months. This week I started working on it and began testing. I had power on the red and white wires on the switch box coming from the wiring harness. On the distributor side, I had no power on the brown wire where the mercury kill switch is. I disconnected the kill switch and checking had power and the motor started. An hour later the motor would not start and no power at the brown wire. After a little tinkering, I had power again and motor started. Yesterday no power at the brown wire to distributor. If I scratch my meter probe either on the brown wire connection or on the ground connection I hear a clicking noise like a switch opening and closing and the meter fluctuates. Maybe a short somewhere? I know my internal harness from control/battery is pretty bad. I have taped and used liquid insulation to cover bad areas. I know I need to replace this but wanted to get the boat running first. Any suggestions helpful.

Sounds like trigger has went kaput...the clicking noise is coil firing into cap, pull wire from coil(not cap) and insert a spark wire for testing.

Thanks for your suggestion. When I went out Sat afternoon, I had power on the distributor side of the switchbox and I started the motor several times throughout the afternoon. I will keep checking, though. I don't want a problem on the lake.
