I have a 1974 20hp Mercury 200 Ser 4060956 Outboard. This motor has electric start but no charging circuit. I bought a lighting stator (part # 74367A9), that is called out for this motors serial number but it would not fit under the flywheel. (No way to mount it to the motor on or the ignition stator). I looked up the stator part number on www.usboatsupply.com and confirmed it with other part lists for this motor and they all list part # 74367A9 for the lighting stator. How do I find the correct lighting stator part number for my motor or know if I can use a lighting stator on my motor?

Thanks,

Most of the engine produced in 74, fell into serial number group 14 and 16 the engines produced it the were latest group #16 could be equipped with a stator for charging the battery. Apparently your engine is a 14 or 15 group.

Hey, I've got s similar issue. I have a 1976 Merc 200/20hp that I've been converting to key start. My mechanic said that the stator I have doesn't charge. My shop tells me.the same thing, o need stator 74367A9.... But it always looks different in the diagram. Mine has only two small coils. In the book it looks like there are several coils. But it never matches. It's driving me nuts. Can you upload a pic ?
