1974 25 hp evinrude

The fuel tank I got with the motor is not vented thru the cap. Should it be because the tank builds up pressure?

The gas cap has three positions. Open, half notch(vent) and closed. The cap works like a radiator cap on a car.

Bass..... If that tank is an OMC tank (possibly others), look at where the fuel line connector plugs on. If you see two small shiny plunger type objects sticking out at the top of that tank connector, the tank is self venting. The fuel connector, when clipped on, will press in those small plungers, one of which is a vent valve.
