Hi!

Hopefully some one can offer me a little insight here on my situation...

I have a 1974 Johnson 40HP Long shaft, It is a manual start, No charging system....

Its on my pontoon, and it suits my needs well, and bought it for a good deal when my 55hp ended its life early last season..

Now after a year or so Im getting lazy, and would really like to not have to tug the rope every time to fire this beast.

So i sourced a charging coil and regulator. Ebay, smoking good deal.

I have a starter and bracket from a parts motor, and it works well.

I do not have a Electric start flywheel for it.. I can find plenty of them for the older motors, like late 60s early 70's Tons with the belt drive for the generator... and plenty of manual start motors.

But cannot find one for my "Odd' Motor.

Seems it would only be for 74-75? Im not sure whats different with it but that's why im hoping to see if someone else has run into this before..

so im thinking i need maby a starter bracket and flywheel or ring gear, I'm not overly worried about safety, as the switch is under the flywheel already

Thanks for any input!

Check at the top of the page in the "Top Secret File", there is a list of salvage yards there. Give some of them a call and I bet one of them can help you out.
