Took my motor in for what I hope is a fuel problem, carbs,... and the shop guys says he'll check it out, but if its anything electrical he want go any further because its obsolete , no parts available... his recommendation was to keep my eye out for a good used motor and upgrade.

Is that right? no , or not many electrical component replacement parts available?

I hate to think that this motor may no longer be able to be maintained.

some parts like the energizer rotor are a bear to find but for the most part aftermarket stuff can keep it alive for a while,

People get familiar working on the newer motors, and find it to be a great nuisance to try and sort out these older motors. Parts are available, and if the overall motor is in good health it would seem inappropriate to discard it simply for one or two maintenance items. Not uncommon to hear though, and you may find that a DIY approach is something to consider in this instance.

Thanks for the replies - at least I have some hope now that all isn't lost LOL.

Hopefully it will be the fuel system and I don't have an immediate concern, but if I do need electrical parts soon or later on down the road I'll probably be back asking for tips on where to locate them.

BTW - checked out TMD site - looks like another great resource!
