1974, 6hp fuel pump swapping

I need a new fuel pump or a kit for this motor. They don't have a kit for 1974, but do have a kit for 1984 and maybe earlier models. Did the fuel pumps for the 6hp change significantly during those 10 years? I'm hoping I can buy a kit for a later model pump and put it in my 1974 model.

Thanks in advance,

If you have the small square pump the kit should work fine. You can get a pump off Ebay or a Sierra replacement from Iboats under $50.
Well worth Not fighting with a rebuild.

I replaced my fuel pump on my 1970 6 HP with a Sierra 18-7350, if that's any help...the old one was in such sad shape I didn't mess with rebuilding it

Re: 1974, 6hp fuel pump swapping

Had fuel pump problem with 1974, 9.9 hp Johnson and found tear
in diaphragm nearest to motor. Fixed problem with a $3.99 auto
carb. accelerator pump diaphragm from AutoZone part no. 90082.
You have to remove the metal pieces from this part and then use
a 4x40 nylon bolt to hold the new diaphragm to the small round
piece that keeps the large spring from damaging the diaphragm.
If you want to go this way let me know and I can draw up a
sketch. This worked out great and motor now starts easy and
runs strong.:)
