Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore

Just an update. I will take some time one of these days to go back through the thread and edit it all so I will be using Photobucket pictures so they are larger and clearer to see for everyone right away. :)

Is that something that helps?

Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore

haha. After i spent all that money on different tools and stuff...
i used something that i already had... it took me like litterally 20 minutes to pop them all because i was just jumping around excited that it was coming off so easy.
the tool i used was a Claw Hammer. I will post video tonight for sure! im not going to do any work on the boat today so i can edit the videos. It really works and doesnt cause too much damage that i cant take care of.

Man you've torn into that thing! I don't see anything left that you haven't taken apart. Hey since you work at Boeing why don't you layer up your repairs with some carbon fiber like a 787?

Real nice job so far.

I could but i havent hit the 6 years mark yet. Once you hit 6 years at Boeing, you get your pay raised to Maximum.. Ive only been there since July 15th lol. But thank you. I have lots to do still. Have to tear out the rest of the foam. Hopefully do that today. But i dont have any help getting the Cap off, and moved.

I will video tape some more. Here are some belated Videos. From when i first purchased the Used boat motor for 600 dollars after i had brough it home.
I have been playin around with my video editing software so i got a little modern and put in some text :)

In this first video, you cannot here me very well but you can here the engine, All i am saying is "This is my engine, here we go" or something along those lines.

This video is only viewable to those with the link.

Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore

After that I decided i would get all the electronics working so i pulled the old harness...

YUUK!!!

So with 90 dollars in my wallet i went to the nearest marine store to pick up wire, and other electronic things. And I turned that old hunk of junk into this.

So here is a video of me starting up the engine with the new wiring harness.

(ps sorry if images repeat. I just wanted to update you guys with videos and figured you all wanted a clue.)

Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore

Got 3 videos edited tonight..

I will post the links when they get available... Youtube takes a while to upload lol

First one that I do have ready is the Evapo Rust.
I bought this stuff at Harbor Freight Tools just to try it. And it works well

At the end of the video you see me toss the left over black stuff into a can of rusty bolts for my engine... well i pulled some bolts out today... no rust! I love it. you can reuse this stuff until it stops working...
I found a better product though, much cheaper but same exact process. Non toxic, biodegradable.. really awesome stuff.. called metal rescue you can look them up!

Here is the video.

P.S. I tried many methods of rust removal, i will be doing and video take rust removal with Vinegar and Electrolysis very soon.

Also a video from earlier in the series. Of my progress in disassembly of the engine. short and not informative. but I think still worthy of my putting it on here.

Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore

I just noticed your first post was on Oct 10th, and look at all the stuff you've done in just 10 days! Plus it seems like you're having fun. At this rate you'll probably be finished and ready to launch by around Thanksgiving.

Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore

Haha Thanks Luhrs. The Boat stuff started around beginning of September but the engine stuff was sometime in August.
I dont think I will have it done by Thanksgiving... If i had 5000 dollars to spend, I would have it done by Halloween. So money is the issue. As it is with anything Marine...

My next project sometime next summer after the boat is done, i will begin the research but in winter i will buy two same model jet ski's something not to fancy or new, and rebuild the engines and repair and repaint. So my wife and i will have our own I think she is more tolerant with the idea of that project than she was about this boat. :)

More Progress videos will go up tonight.
I will be pulling up the rest of the floor foam tonight, and starting to cut into the Gasoline tank bay and the Battery bay on either side of the bilge and removing that foam. I say started because on how my progress has been going I dont think I will finish it tonight but I know i will start it.

Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore

I sure hope so... one thing i do no. I am not going to quit! it will get done and hopefully even before my splash date. but I am not rushing anything i want to do it right the first time! that way it will have value and it will last for 20 years if i so wish it!
