Re: 1974 Bayliner Discovery 1850 Restore
So ladies and gents who have been following my little post... no i have not disappeared. I have just finished moving into my parents house to save some money and be closer to the boat (shh.. dont tell my wife) but now i litterally sleep about 10 feet from the outside of my window to the boat. lol.
First of all Happy New Year i hope all of your holidays were great, mine were!! Boeing Bonus helped out alot, and I have gotten some new tools that i will post pictures of
New 175psi 2 stage compressor

and i am currently cleaning out my dads garage to organize things before i get started putting the engine together.
I have all of the head gasket seals, and all of the correct seals needed, all of the stuff that needed to be machine has been machined... all i need to do is basically put it together.
Before that I will need to coat the Block with Automotive Rust Bullet, than coat it with engine enamel.
Than it will be fitted for bearings and everything will be lubed and assembled...
I am driving my Exhaust Manifold and Riser (elbow) to Performance Coatings in Auburn, WA tonight to coat it with special 1300+ degree ceramic coating, I chose this company because it is local and because i dont have to ship it to JetHot for 80 bucks each way... so for 200 i think it works out great!!
I cant wait to see the result.
Oh i also bought a Parts Washer and will be cleaning all the parts and blowing them off with the air from my new compressor i cant wait to set up all of the air lines ..
as you can all tell i am pretty excited...
after the engine is complete, and the exhaust manifold will go on the puppy and the carbs will be rebuilt (already have the kits for them) than all will be left to do is replace the impeller in the pump, get a new alternator and i will be happy as a goose!
Time is getting closer and its flying by, Since i put a hold on workin on the fiberglass of the boat, i will finish the Engine first, than it will be to blasting the Outdrive than painting the peices making it look brand new, than assembly... than i will start doing the finishing portion of my boat teardown (all i have left to do is rip the transom out ... there is some bad wood but most of it was good

but i have decided i wanted to put in a brand new one all together). so once the new transom is in and the stringers and floor it will be time to test the transom and attache the engine and outdrive and from there i can figure out whats going on... once all of that is done, than leak test will begin... (probably going to do a leak test before i put the floor in.. with new stringers, and transom... still debating whether to just leave the transom whole and not cut the hole for the outdrive until after its in... that way i can float test the boat for a day (while spending it out on the beach with the wife) and if it has 0 leaks... i will than cut the transom... like i said still debating...
but it will all become evident as the time is getting closer....
but once all of that is done, the plan is to paint it last ..
QUESTION!!!
I am going to post this on the Engine forums unless Don Wants to chime in here since he is the Volvo Penta GURU....
On the Volvo AQ130D does it need a engine mount? when i pulled the old engine from my boat there was no mount of any kind, nor was there a mount post or holes in the bilge where a mount could screw to... please assist.
