Was your 235 v6 a VRO outboard or premix?
That is what I did a couple years ago......bought a rebuilt one from Franz Marine. It was actually a 1988 Force PH and he set it up to work on my engine (drilled/tapped for mounting the distributor and changed the crank bearing cage for the dist belt). Wiseco pistons. Everything bolted up fine. Wasn't a cheap fix......but was done right.Actually, just replacing the powerhead on mine would be the simplest thing to do for an old guy like me. Anybody have a good one for sale?
Nice find! It amazes me the deals you can find on outboard in the US, I'm located in Mexico the main market of marine stuff here is in the coasts and most of the outboards are run until they completely die, in my last trip to the beach I asked a couple fishermen where I could find a good used outboard and they told me that is not common they beat the hell out of them and then just buy a new one, market place doesn't have many either, I live three hours from Texas probably my best shot is to make a road trip over there and try to find one.Well, my old Chrysler outboard experience is over. I came home last night with a running Yamaha 90 2 stoke for $1200. I would imagine you guys will excommunicate me now. Yeah, I fought the fine fight for 7 years. I enjoyed learning about classic 2 stroke outboards and I was proud at how that 51 year old outboard took me to a lot of places, from the Chesapeake Bay to Cape Cod to Lake Ontario but I'm not as much of a tinkerer as I thought I was. Right now I think I will part it out on Ebay. The carbs and lower end should bring $300. Any advice on parting out a outboard would be appreciated. I hate adding to the landfill anymore than I have to.
Stale fuel will do that too ......looses some of its octane rating and detonates.WinnerCougar74 looks like pre detonation has damage one of the pistons and lean mixture or clogged carb damage the other.
Maybe some overheat too.
They all look a bit clean to me ,specially the two on the left .....interestingI have been struggling with fouled plugs for so long I assumed (yeah I know) I would never be dealing with a lean situation. It's interesting how clean the heads are on #3 & #4. Keep in mind it seems unrealistic to ever think about rebuilding this power head. This is just fun cuz now I can take this outboard apart and get a look at everything. Incidentally, confirmed proper main jet, idle jets identical at 1 turn out, replaced all of the reed valves, only used rec 90 fuel.
Yeah , I was thinking it looked like water has been washing the carbon off .....but the head gasket looked ok , so I figured Id keep quiet. That clean head can indicate water intrusion in the cylinders.
Head gasket looks fine BUT you may have a crack in the water jackets and when the water pump impeller set the cooling system under pressure a water mist can occur due to a crack in the water jackets.
I have seen this issue on Chrysler 70-75Hp and Force 85, 90 and 120Hp blocks. It were really wisible when I sent the blocks for reboring.
