A friend is selling his old 1974 115/hp.He "rebuilt" it 5 years ago. If it is a mess what would it be worth? If I paid somone else to rebiuld it what are we talking about? 200,500,1000?

Thanks

James Burke

The value of that engine is all over the board. If it is pristine, and I mean perfect, maybe $1,500.00.
If it is nicked up and does not look new, maybe $750.00. Most important. If you cannot demonstrate its running ability or at least a compression check, the value drops to whatever someone will give you for it.

I myself would cut those in about half. It's 30 years old. My guestimates would be $750 for a running motor that looks okay, a couple of hundred if the gearcase or powerhead need significant work. I can't imagine getting a grand for it unless it's cosmetically and mechanically excellent. Depends a lot on the market in your area.

willybRight is RIGHT on the money........
That engine would max at 750.00, maybe a little more if professionally rebuilt, (Top and Bottom),and professionally repainted and new decals. The SAD part is....It's worth WAY more parted-out, than it is running.
