1974 evinrude V 4 cyl

as I don't have the book on it yet, does anyone know what the small housing is that connects the water jackets from the two banks of cylender heads are? I think its the thermostat? not sure..Its about 3 inches long 2 inches wide and 1 inch high, between the two sets of cylenders..

Correct MC. This is the T-stat housing. Contains two T-stats, bypass valves, seats and what not. One T-stat per head. Yes, one head can het hotter than the other. You should also have a temp switch in each head for overheat warning. The temp sw's. on yer engine will have a wire coming from them and into the engine harness.

Just one thermostat and one temp sensor (starboard) on the 69-77 V4s.
