Re: 1974 Glastron V-179 (AQ 130C) - issues

My husband & I have a 1973 V-179, aq130c. Does anybody have any advice on a better propeller for it (270 outdrive). The one on it is the original 3 blade and works fine...but I know it can be better! LOL!

Also, has anybody ever replaced the gas tank in one of these things? We are thinking about it, but don't want to open up a can of worms and waste 1/2 the summer dealing with it.

We also have the ugly trailer from 1972. My husband bought a couple of cans of 98 cent black spray paint and the trailer actually looks decent! LOL! He used a piece of cardboard to prevent over spray from getting on the boat and painted the trailer with the boat on it in about 30 mins. What an amazing difference and a cheap fix!

Help! I got a 1973 Glastron 17 foot with a volvo 130hp, 270aq outdrive and I can not find a propeller. Can someone give me a part # I have taken it in to get fixed and now has been 6 weeks and can not get hold of the guy who was repairing it. I don't wanna buy the wrong one so if any one who has any info it would be greatly appreciated!!

Wow, I didn't realize there were so many out there. I have the 76 model which they switched the nomenclature to T-179. I have the Merc 140 I/O, green and white.

Nice looking boat... I like the green and she's in really nice shape, from the looks of her. I wish mine had the Merc engine.... nobody around here will even consider doing any work on the older Volvo-Pentas. arghhhh!

Hey is that an amphiba-car in the back ground? Cool pic!

my dad just recenty purchased a 74 and doesn't really have time now to fix it up! its not in real bad shape for a boat he paid 200 bucks for. it runs and everything is working but the throttle is in bad shape. i haven't seen the boat up close but i was wondering, is there a certain kind of throttle or a unviersal throttle that i can use on it?

HELLO EVERYONE I TOO JUST BOUGHT A 1974 GLASTRON STARFLITE V179 WITH THE VOLVO PENTA MOTOR AQ130. SO FAR EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD I HAVE ALITTLE MINOR REPAIRS LIKE MISSING SCREWS AND BOLTS BUT OTHER THEN THAT SEEMS LIKE EVERYTHING WORKS. I DO HAVE TO REPLACE THE SEATS CAUSE THEY ARE ALL TORN UP. MY GIRLFRIEND AND I ARE NOW STARTING TO BUFF AND CLEAN THE BOAT. WE DID TEAR OUT THE OLD CARPET AND LOOKING TO REPLACE IT AS SOON AS WE CAN FIND THE CARPET AND SEATS CHEAP ENOUGH. ALL I HAD TO DO REALLY TO THIS BOAT WAS REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. EVENTUALLY WE WANT TO CHANGE THE UGLY BROWN COLOR TO RED BUT KEEP THE CLASSIC STYLE ON THE SIDE OF THE BOAT. THIS IS OUR FIRST BOAT SO WE ARE STILL LEARNING HOW TO GO ABOUT DOING ALL THIS ON A LOW BUDGET. THERE IS A NEW SITE COMMING SOON HOPEFULLY THEY FINISH SOON WITH MY YEAR OF BOAT ON IT...IT'S SOO HARD TO FIND INFO ON A 74 GLASTRON STARFLITE. HERE IS A PICTURE OF MY NEW BUT USED BOAT[/B
TOOK THE TORN UP SEATS OUT PLUS PULLED UP THE CARPET.

I have the exact same boat. The floor seems pretty solid but I wont know until the springtime when I can get past the 2 layers of carpet. Looks like you are on your way.
