Hey guys, been a while since I've been on here but had a ton of help from everyone getting started with my first boat this year and had an awesome time! Anyway, I went out last weekend for my final hoora and got home and parked the boat and over the next couple of days o gathered all the equipment to winterize my motor (74 Johnson 115hp). So I went out yesterday to do the winterizing and I saw a strange oil leak coming from behind the prop and also out of a small hole where the lower connects to the upper. I have read many times that this oil coming from behind the prop is unburned gas/oil from the 2 stroke mix and its just exhausting there. The part that concerns me is the oil coming from the small hole. Its definitely the same oil and looks nothing like the gear oil so I think I'm just overreacting but would like some reassurance. I took pictures so everyone can get somewhat of a visual of what I'm yapping about. Thanks a ton guys!

Does it smell of anything? gear oil stinks,
You could undo your gear oil plug (dont touch the one with philips screw head) and see if the levels dropped and if it smells like the dripping oil

More likely it is oily exhaust residue from the exhaust tube. Possible that the lower seal in the exhaust tube is leaking. Original part number 314937. Called a seal, gearcase to inner (exhaust) housing on the factory diagram. It's not a fatal failure, but it's messy looking. Sometimes when the impeller is changed this seal does not seat correctly, causing the problem. (the seal will expand with age and it's difficult to get back in place during an impeller changeout.)

Got an owners manual and service manual on the way and I went ahead and ordered a new seal ( part #314937) and it should be here about Wednesday and I'll drop the lower and have a look at what the hecks going on. Thanks for the help and if anybody has any more advice I'm glad to hear it!
