FLoat valve and seat is not stopping fuel flow for whatever reason.

Time to open her back up. Was the new needle rubber tipped?

Thanks for the quick reply. I just took it apart again and yes it has a rubber tip, I rechecked e\/ery thing and all looked good. When I put it back together I checked it by blowing into the inlet tube, I could blow in when right side up and could not blow in when upside down. When I hooked the fuel line up it leaked again, So I took it apart and reinstalled the old cork float and seat and I got the same results.

Make sure the carb vent is clear (there's a hole in the upper float chamber that needs to vent out the front of the carb), also, make sure you installed the nozzle gasket #21. Good luck!

One thing I have experienced too, is the tab on the float, should be adjusted to where it lets the float drop down a little bit. Where the needle assembly screws in, the tab will hit that, when the float is in the down position. Put the float up to the closed position and bend that tab in to where there is maybe 1/32 of an inch gap. I had this issue with my old 35 Johnson. Once I did that, it didn't have gas running out anymore.

Re: 1974 Johnson 2r74e

Finaly got a chance to work on carb this afternoon Zepher I reinstalled all the new parts and checked the float carefully making sure it works right. Kbait I ran a small wire into the \/ent hole to make sure it is open, I did notice that the spacer is missing from the carb to the bracket this would alow the \/ent hole to be mostley closed, I will make a spacer tomorrow and install the carb and check for leaks and let you know how it works Thanks for your help Ron

Oh, okay. Yea, I figured that one out, once I typed it in. LOL Well, ask Santa nicely and he'll probably send a new keyboard your way.

Merry Christmas

Well I finaly got a chance to make the spacer and started the motor and it starts and runs great. Now I will offer it to some one on craigslist. Zepher I asked Mrs Santa for a new key board and another motor to work on and she told me to choose so I guess you will see a lot of these (\/) for a while:)
