1974 Johnson 9.9

Does anyone know if I can use a more modern coil in place of the old OMC 502880 and OMC 581407. I was looking at the OMC 582508. I know I can still get replacements, but it would be cheaper to get the new one and I'm wondering if it'll be more reliable. If I can swap, does it hook up the same way?

581407, was replaced with 502880, sierra # 185196, http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=109176&gd_row=47&**********=720310912

OMC 582508. is nothing like it.
