1974 merc 50hp bypass safety switch?

hey guys, i am trying to get this motor running STILL! i am going to get a key today, my question is, can i bypass the safety switch?
the motor is a 50hp 500 thunderbolt probably 1974 model.
any help would be awsome.

More details on the safety switch please. Are you referring to the neutral safety switch or a deadman switch?

You probably have the MerControl controller. It does not have a deadman switch.

Any safety switch can be bypassed...But, you will have to open the controller to "jump" the switch. Plus, you better have a set of electrical schematics, or have a good working knowledge of electrical wiring...

Thats not the safety switch...thats where the Tach harness connects...the safety switch is inside the controller. The safety switch prevents the motor from starting when not in neutral

oh, okay, i thought that was a deadmans switch or something.:)
so i guess i dont need that hooked up in order to start the motor.
