Forgive me, as Im sure someone will point me to where this has already been discussed.
I'm restoring a 1974 Caravelle 18' with a Mercruiser 165 Inline 6. The carb appears to be original and the boat sat for about 20 years so I'm considering replacing the carb just to be safe.
my question - what are some modern options that can be installed with this engine? The OEM isnt available for purchase bran new or I'd start there. I'm hoping someone can school me on carbs and how to retrofit one.

You CAN NOT use an automotive carb and 'retrofit' it... Very very dangerous... At that age, your best option is to clean and rebuild the old one...

Thanks Chris, I was hoping there is a more current Mercruiser (or other aftermarket) carb available that fits this engine, marine of course. I think the rebuild kit is available so I may go that route.
