1974 mercruiser no spark

I have recently purchased a nice boat with a 1974 mercruiser which I thought was in great condition. Got it out on the water for two days and it ran fine. Brought it back home and started it up with muffs to rinse the salt out. It ran for ten minutes and just died, and will not restart. There is no spark from the main coil. I have replaced the rotor the coil the points (with electronic)and have tested everything which I can test and I am stumped as to why I get no spark. If anyone has any suggestions they would be very welcome. Weatherman says that there is a nice weekend coming up and I would love to get out on the water.<br /><br />Kappa

Check the shift interrupter switch that is attached to your shift cables, and disconnect the two wires coming from it, and try to start her up, that was my problem anyways. Keep in mind that I am a total noob with this stuff though but figured it out through these forums.

Do you have Voltage to the (+) post of the Coil,..????

That is one thing that I have not tried. I will give it a shot and see what happens. I am quite sure that it is something like that though as the boat was running fine.

I do have voltage to the positive post. Also the electronic ignition I installed has an led that indicates that it is working properly. No points to worry about anymore.

I believe that I disconnected the two wires that were attached to the shift interupter but with no results other than the leds on the electronic ignition are no longer blinking. I am really puzzled now.

Did you replace the points to electronic ignition before or after it quit on you?
