1974 mercury 115 in line 6

[1974 glastron CV16]

Engine runs good but started making a noise at end of the day. I brought it home and ran it with the garden hose. No noise. Went back to the lake, started engine and noise was back. never took it off trailer, engine not in gear.
Back home started with garden hose again and no noise.

Water pump maybe?? Any ideas??

Check gear oil.------Check flexplate on the flywheel.-----Push / pull / lift on the flywheel.----No overheat warning or shut down on that motor.-----Install a new impeller !!

I found some loose bolts on the flywheel.
Any idea on torque for the 8 bolts on top of the flywheel?
I think 100 ft lbs

No-----100 ft-lbs is way too much on a 5/16" bolt !!

Check the distributor pully cover. They can get loose and rattle. A bit of blue locktight on that bolt and the flexplate bolts works wonders.

No. 100 ft lbs is the torque for the flywheel nut in the center. About 15 or so for those small ones.

That is the only spec I see for the flywheel and I thought is was way too much!
