I have purchased my first boat and beginning the process of restoring it to its one time splendor. It has sat for a long time in Oregon weather, uncovered, unprotected, unloved and uncared for. I recognize that some may think that I am a little off in starting such a project, but I am in my 70s, love to "fiddle around with projects", love to work on old things, and hate to see something wasting away. I have a thick skin, say what you want, I enjoy fun and joshing around, so, go for it. I am working on a project here that I know nothing about, but learning is still fun to me. Now to the boat.

It is solid as far as structure goes. It has bow damage on both sides, everything is rusty (it rains in the Oregon Willamette valley), and it has been totally unprotected for 5 or 6 years. Got the boat in my garage, got the sump plug unplugged and drained out about 30 gallons of bad water. Got it dried out now and beginning to remove items that I can get off, cutting off others that won't come loose.

I am needing to find a command post for my Minn Kota 595, of course it is far past find repair parts or ordering a new one. Don't know what I will do about that as yet. If anyone out there has done this, let me know. If you have ideas, let me know. If you want to make fun of it, go ahead. My wife has said about all that can be said about not doing the project. We have been married 49 years, and I still listen to her, but then go ahead with what I was doing before she made her comments. With that said, FULL SPEED AHEAD! Will get pictures posted if I can figure out how to do it. If not, I will leave my work to your imagination.

Welcome to iBoats!

Open a FREE photobucket account an load your pics there. Use the IMG code to copy and paste your pics to iBoats. Based on your description of the boat and it's history, I highly suspect you'll need to do a full "Gut Job" on her. Deck removal, Stringer, and Transom replacement. These links should be of some help to you...

Welcome to the iboats dry dock. Your never too young or old to restore a boat, if the money is not a problem then the key is desire and motivation.
