Oh, ours was a 1970 v150 modified. Yours should have a Starcraft builders USCG certification plate rivited to the inside of the dash, just forward of the engine control. That was the only serial number I remember. There was no serial number molded or engraved on the hull. I don't believe the engraved numbers were mandatory for several years later.

The uscg plate is pitted but the ser.# might be legdable . maybe i can call SC and find out the year . i have the black vynal stripe , angled , but hadnt seen any in pics in '70 or '71 broshoures . theyre all rounded . theyre hinting that no gas tank was installed and another key note was the bench seat described as 'full seat' opposed to back to back . so i'm thinking either of those two years .,.......... i saw a video of a '72 v140 on the water , so no side view . the splashwell has 4 1/4" holes for the steering bracket so i'm wondering if they switched to the swivel bracket on the motor in '72 . everything else checks out except i wish the '72 had more info .
I know what you mean about sand bars , we have plenty of them here in the Great South Bay . I put a 70hp Johnson w/ tnt so i'm hoping i get close to the same results of your 90 . i'm still working on the carbs so didnt it get out for the holiday, too bad cause the Blue Angels air show had the bay jam packed w/ boats . party city on the water . you gave me some good stuff , if you come up w/ anything else let me know . than ks again ,...btw, what are you running nowadays ? don't tell me the wife has you w/o any toys ,...lol

Re: 1974 Starcraft V150 Deluxe

I seem to recall the year was included in the USCG plate but it's been a good while now since I've seen it. With the 90 merc and the 17 I ran a steady 55 on the speedo with 3 passengers, with the 19 I could top 60 with the same load in a slight chop. It was never intended to be a HP hull, but the ol girl would fly but start chine walking pretty good trimmed out. I had another boat for speed.
Ours had no built in fuel tank. I would think that would have been a user installed item in a 14 or 15 ft boat in those days. We always just used 2-6 gallon outboard cans under the rear and for a long day out if we ran over to the Delaware Bay or down towards Annapolis, I had a larger 8 gallon can I would swap out and slide under the port side for a little extra range. I never saw a need to mount a heavy built in tank as it made mixing oil and fuel more of a chore after all of the pre-mixed fuel pumps disappeared around here.

As far a tilt tube steering, That was likely more dependent on the motor the previous owners chose than the boat. With an outboard hull, It's far more likely for someone to buy a boat sans motor and mount an outboard of a different year or manufacturer, or for the Dealer to offer a choice. My grandfather preferred Evinrudes so he had it ordered even though the dealer usually sold Johnsons which were a bit different at the time. He also liked the Evinrude Selectric Controls better than the twin lever controls Johnson used at the time. It was really easy to dock the boat just clicking back and forth between F-N-R without touching the throttle. The '70 60 hp Evinrude did not have tilt tube steering so it required using a bracket type steering. When we re-powered the boat in 85 we went with tilt tube steering.

I also had a 78 Hydrostream Viking rigged with a 175 Merc for several years. Fastest I ever clocked on radar was 89 mph with a 28p cleaver. I usually ran a 26p double cupped chopper and could snatch a slalom skiier out of the water and still run in the mid 70's with 4 adults onboard. Unfortunately, my now wife was terrified of the 'stream, ( that fear MAAAY have had something to do with me being late for our second official date after I barrel rolled it one afternoon ) so it paid for a kitchen remodel shortly after we got married a few years later. I've been running a 90 Donzi GT 250 since then. I also have a little 11ft GW Invader (a longer version of the old Disney World boats) with a 35 hp Johnson that runs around 40, but I haven't had that in the water in several years.
