Hmmmmm well where to start?

Have you checked for rot? wet foam? That boat is going to be a huge project alone.

How's the motor? How about the outdrive? That is a great motor outdrive combo .....only if it has no real issues.

The trailer looks beat up too :(

Honestly........unless you have the budget, a place to work and a REAL HUGE love for the boat...... I would not do it.

Ayuh,... Currently, it's worth maybe $100. bucks,.......... for the trailer....

Expect to spend 'bout $5,000. to have a Nice runnin' unit, on a trailer...

Do you own her or are you considering buying her? Are you sentimentally attached to her? Is the Hull Sound? Plan for the worst and hope for the best. A total gut job on a craft this size is a major undertaking. If, BIG IF, you have the time, baskic skills, willingness, inside place to work on it and money to take on this project AND it is the kind of boat you would want to buy if you went out to buy a new one, then Yeah, i'd say it's worth it. In my opinion your task should be to ensure that the drive train was sound and restorable. If not then no way would I recommend taking this project on. If it is good to go, then like Bond-o says. 5 Grand and 500 hrs of work will give you a real nice craft. If your time is not considered into the formula then you'll be way ahead. Where are you gunna buy a boat like her for 5 to 7 Grand???

When you're done, she'll be as good if not better than new and you will know for sure she is sound and will last for years. With another used boat you never know what you're getting. When you do it yourself you're guaranteed it's done right. You WON'T make any money off her if you try and sell her but if you're wanting a boat that you can keep in the family and enjoy for years to come, then this project would be well worth your efforts. You'll have all the help you need from the forum members.

Your decision.

I do own the boat and trailer. The trailer just needs paint, it is an old steel one, and one fender needs to be reinstalled. I do have room in the barn to do it but it seems like a large committment to restore it. Motor spins with wrench on crank so it is not seized up. The guy I got it from said it ran before it went into storage.... You know how that goes. Skills and equipment is there. I am a jack of all trades but master of none so I think I fit the bill. Where does most of the expense come from? What can I expect? I have never done fiberglass in my life.

Man, I don't know if I would stick that much time & money into a 74 tri-hull - I don't believe you would EVER get anywhere close to your money back if you needed to sell. Maybe if it was a "classic" or a collectible boat. I guess if you really like that boat then go for it but I think you could get a nicer/bigger boat for 5k

Hello Inummer,

Welcome to iBoats. I am pretty new around here also but have found a treasure trove of information!!

In response to your "Where does most of the expense come from?" here is a great link that I suggest you go through...

Friscoboater has a great thread with pictures and videos. He explains everything about his rebuild in great detail including expense. I highly suggest that you watch all the videos before you make your decision.

Good luck.
