Looking for solution to this problem: My boat will not fully engage forward, other gears work fine.
Details on the problem known for sure:
1974 Glastron
Ford 302 Motor
Volvo 270 I/O
Engages reverse and spins nicely. When boat is turned off I cannot turn prop the opposite way it wants to go (Which is good).
Neutral works
In forward prop spins slowly. Spins faster as throttle increased, but much slower than it should. It does not grab, I can turn prop backwards in forward gear.
When removing upper unit case to see gear rod, I removed the rod and manually shifted gears by turning the knob: The outdrive properly engages reverse (Prop only turns one way). In neutral prop turns both ways. In forward prop spins easily one way, and some resistance the opposite way, but not much.
This information made me think it's either the cone clutch or gear housing in the upper unit. It's hard to find parts for this boat now, so I'm hoping not.
Information that I'm not so sure about because I did not own it yet:
Boat properly engaged all the gears the last time it was in the lake.
While it did run ok last time, there were some cracking in the drive bellows which was repaired. The mechanic removed the outdrive to do this. He then reinstalled the outdrive.
I hope that because it (probably) worked last time, that the problem is something small in the upper unit or with the reinstallation of the outdrive. I kind of doubt the second reason because I manually turn the gear knob in the upper unit and it doesn't work still
I hope this is enough information, please let me know if you need to know anything else, thank you!
