1975 20hp(200) merc powerhead same as 1976 20hp(200)?

Can I simply switch my 1976 20hp bad powerhead and replace it with a 1975 20hp powerhead? at first glance they look very similiar.. but the REAL question is are they? thanks for any input!

Not sure what is on the port side forward corner of the 1975 powerhead that the 1976 does not have. Above the steering arm/throttle control bracket.
