1975 3cyl 65hp stalls after brief high speed

This motor seems to be somewhat cold blooded during initial startup. After cranking and choking for few seconds it will finally start. Once it has cleaned itself out, it will idle just fine. I can go to wide open throttle and it planes out the boat and sounds like a new motor. After about five minutes or so at full speed and backing off of the throttle, the motor misses a few times and then stalls. It will not restart or if it does, it will only run for a couple of seconds before dying out again. It will start the next day exactly the same way. Carbs have been removed and cleaned thoroughly. Distributor and wires checked and cleaned. Electrical terminations have also been checked over. I think it is heat related in some way. Does this sound like a typical symptom or trait for these engines. I am more familiar with Evinrudes and Johnsons. Any help would be appreciated.

I should have mentioned that this is a Mercury outboard. I have also replaced the water pump and thermostat and verified that there is adequate water flow. The motor does not appear to be overheating in any way.

Have you tried checking for fire to the plugs after it dies on you? I am no pro by any means but it sounds like a coil or coil pack is or electrical circuit is opening up and not firing until it cools down. ( Like the next day as you described)
Another thing is a ground wire to the coil pack/packs

I am making this suggestion based off a Johnson outboard experience I had. I ended up putting on a used coil pack on my old Johnson that fixed the problem.
Just Something to try
Keep Digging, youll find the problem.

IS the fuel primer bulb staying hard? If not the fuel pumps are losing their prime or are defective. leaak in hose letting it suck in air etc.
Try squeezing the primer right before it quits to see if it is soft and if pumping it keeps the motor running.

Is the vent open on the fuel tank cap? if not the thing will suck fuel out of the tank till it creates a vacuum that it can not over come and then she will die?

If not fuel are you checking to see if you still have spark after the motor dies?
