I have a 1975 70 hp johnson and a few weeks ago it locked up on me.The problem was water leaking in the exhaust port and that locked up the motor.I changed the gasket which was a pretty big job.I took all the precautions like sand paper and glass to get the surface true and proper torque. The new gaskets held for about four trips to the lake or 18 gallons of gas.Now the gasket faild where water shoots out near the ground cable bolt.It looks like the gasket was forced out.I used a thin coat of rtv sealant when
I put it together (wondering if this was my fatal error?).I would like to know if anyone could give me some pointers before I do the gasket replacement this time.Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

if im not mistaken you have more than 1 gasket to replace. i do believe 3. to do the job correct.
pretty shure about it.
you want to use gasket sealing compound.
that should do the job.
you might want to take the ph of to get all the exhaust cover bolts out.
