My 1975 Evinrude 85 hp alarm sounds occasionally when I shift from neutral into reverse. The alarm will then go away as I throttle up further into reverse.
Is it doing this to let me know it's in reverse or telling me there is still forward momentum? Is there a way to distinguish the type of alarms on this model?
Thanks

the model only has one alarm - overheat. sounds like you have a wire shorting out in your control.

Solved this issue. The business end of the buzzer, the speaker face, is metal and when shifting into reverse a part of the mechanical apparatus inside the control unit would touch the face, creating a ground and sounding the buzzer. My solution was to slightly reposition the buzzer. Not sure if the buzzer face is supposed to be isolated, if so, I could have also put in a new buzzer.
Thanks for the help.
