Good day. New to the site and outboard fixing for that matter. I'm looking for information on this engine. I'm having difficulty getting it running, as well as sourcing parts. I can get spark on one cylinder only. I have searched the forums for possible causes and diagnostic procedures, and belive I now know what to look for. However, I am at a loss about compatibility with other years and models for parts. Other than the no spark on one cylinder, it needs the ignition replaced(no key so someone broke it). Is there a site on the interweb I can access more info ? Is this model also called the Sailor?
Thanks for any input.

The autoelectric is a direct drive starter motor with an aux. pull starter. Again, it has a standard points ignition under the flywheel. However, it is not that easy to remove the flywheel. You must first remove the wiring (take a photo first) thenremove the cap from the starter motor. Remove the three bolts holding the starter field and pull it up. the brushes will snap out of the holders so don't lose them. Now, you must get a long screw threaded all the way and screw it into the top of the armature to pull it off the crankshaft. I forget, but it is 5/16, either fine or coarse thread.

Once the armature id removed, then you can remove the pull start frame and now, the flywheel not is accessable. Clean and gap the points to .020.

It is a short shaft engine. It is NOT a sailor model. These were extra long with a different lower unit and prop.

Almost all the parts are swappable with Chrysler 9.9 through 15 and early Force engines. The autoelectric is unique to the Chryslers. It is a starter/generator with a single diode. There is a resistor to drop voltage and power the 6 volt dome light. The engine will produce enough power to illuminate the light and recharge the battery---and that's it.

You can replace the ignition switch with a long nose standard six terminal switch. Even though there were only a couple of key patterns, finding the correct one on line will be difficult.

Welcome to iboats forums--- and---where do you get these pristine engines?

Thanks for the information and warm welcome Frank. I picked these units up from a former Chrysler marine dealer, who had them in his bedroom closet (no kidding)since he closed his store in the early eighties. Neither have been on a boat. I know he has more parts, but lives quite far from me, and is difficult to talk to over the phone on account of his age.
