Ok yall I got a 1975 cheif that I got a steal on 18ft with a good trailer and merc 100 tower power but replaced with 90hp rude since I can find parts for it lol....

My issue is the stern set super low in the back... The water is about 2 or 3 inches from coming over the back splash pan.... Also I noticed it leans real hard to driver side... but passenger side doesnt lean all that much... I have replaced from floor and all to the bow but transom is next step... I was thinking that maybe this was an i/o and was switched ob and transom was cut too short on production build sc chef what size shaft motor should be on it 20 or 25?

Re: 1975 cheif

I will I could post a pic but my boat is located 500 miles away as my dad wanted to use it but it should be home this weekend.... I'm thinking of installing pods on the rear like a sea ark would have, I have had several SC over the years from 16-24 feet with no issue of stern setting low in the water... Well except that time I put a 150 on the 18ft so that would be expected.... I don't think flotation being added to the hull would help would it? So pods would be it...

Normally a 20" shaft would be used on an 18' rig, but if that transom was cut out it could be off.

With some photos we can help out. Maybe measure the distance from the transom clamps/top of transom down to the anti-ventilation plate on the motor to see what length you need.
