I have an older motor that ran OK, (started hard) until I was running in full throttle and the gas line kinked and it died. Now it seems like it floods out and will not run. The carb was taken apart and cleaned, (because there was gas running out of it when chocked). I replaced the plugs and its getting good fire. Now it really does not look like the carb is getting flooded but there is black gas/oil coming out of the exhaust and leaking on the ground.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Phil

OK, I did some searching on here and it looks like I should start out with a new seat and needle right? or is there something else to check?

What type of spark plug are you using? Get a set of L82C champion plugs. Rebuild kit for the carb is 18-7037 and the rebuild kit for the fuel pump is 18-7806. Total cost for both kits will be around 25 bucks. Iboats sells them as well as NAPA. When priming the fuel bulb you should be able to get it firm without gas leaking out the carb. When primer is hard turn key to start position with throttle as far forward while in neutral as you can get it. While starting motor push key in to engage choke. If you dont choke the motor it will never start.

Thanks, I am using autolite 425's (that what was in it when I got it but I'll change them to the ones you recommended). OK I'll try to rebuild that stuff and give it a go.

I have an older motor that ran OK,

If '75 is 'Older', what does that make my 1965 45 HP?? Actually its a great runner.

Just a though, if this problem started to occur after your fuel line kinked, is it possible that you some how sucked or blew a hole in the fuel pump diaphragm and that where you 'flooding' is coming from?

If there is a hole in the fuel pump diaphragm and you squeeze the bulb hard enough you will force all kinds of fuel back into the crank case where it can run out of the carb....

Carb and fuel pump rebuild it a nice easy Sunday afternoon project.

Thanks for everyone help with this motor! I did get it running thanks to the advice I received here. It idles pretty rough and wants to die (and does). I think the head gasket is leaking and that may be a problem. The bolts on it were kind of loose and were tightened but it looks like there is still a little water getting by and leaking out onto the back of motor. It revs up OK.
I am going to order a 18-3853 head gasket for this. Goes someone know, Is this the correct part number for a 1975 457HH motor?
Thanks,Phil

Re: 1975 Chrysler 45 HP Flooded

27-F201529-1 is the mercury number and the cost is $32.04. Original chrysler part number is 201529-1. Typically mercury puts an F in front of their numbers. I see Iboats sells the 18-3853 for about $17. This is actually a force head gasket not a chrysler. It is for a 50 HP force. Now if the force has the same size power head as the chrysler it will work. If it were me I would spend the extra money and stick with the mercury number which is for sure the correct number.
